Tetsuwan Birdy Decode – 1 I am so loving this! =D

Wow, what a brilliant first episode. Anyway, as some of you might have guessed that since I’m not doing a first impressions post for this series I’ll be blogging it. So let’s get on with it, shall we?

Tetsuwan Birdy

Birdy and her robotic companion, Tute are hot in pursuit of an intergalactic criminal, but just as she busts her way into the cockpit she finds out that the criminals, Geega and Bacillus have escaped. 6 months later, Birdy under the alias of the female model Arita Shion is on her way back from a photoshoot with her helper, disguised as her manager. They’re still in pursuit of Geega but haven”t gotten very far in their investigation. However, things change for the better when they recieve news that Geega is posing as an entertainment network bigshot. Elsewhere, Tsutomu Senkawa, a regular middle school student is reading some comics in a store.

That night, Birdy and Tute trail Geega who’s leaving from a meeting with a person named Gomez. At the site of an abandoned building Senkawa meets up coincidentally with his female friend, Natsumi Hayamiya, whom he takes along with him. While exploring the building they meet up with Geega, in his human disguise, who forces them to leave. Geega then proceeds to the roof of the building where Birday and Tute attack him. He puts up some resistance before shedding his human disguise. He attacks Birdy but she tosses him right through the building, right into the path of Senkawa and Hayamiya who’re trying to escape. Geega then tosses Senkawa at Birdy who in the heat of battle accidentally kills him.

The next morning he wakes up in his bed thinking that the whole ordeal was a dream. Outside, he says his farewells to his parents who’re moving away for half a year, together with his sister. Going to school, he meets up with Hayamiya and later meets up with his classmates. Back at home, he gives his salutory greetings but realizes no ones home but he hears a voice as he climbs up his stairs. Shocked he trips and falls, blacking out. He wakes up to find himself soaring through the air from Birdy’s point of view, who gives him a wink.

My Thoughts;

Wow, that was a great first episode. I’m really impressed, what with all the colours and the awesome fighting as well? Awesome!

Anyway, despite all the flak this series was getting prior to it’s airing, I was actually really looking forward to it. What I didn’t know was that there was an OVA named Birdy the Mighty around 12 years ago. You can check it out at this link.

I’ve got to say that I really love the animation and the character designs. The colours are so bright they hurt my eyes at times and the choreography of the fight scenes we’re just really, really well done. Also, Birdy’s character design is just plain cool. I really like how they’ve changed her design from that tacky space suit she wore in the 1996 version to the streamlined and futuristic looks she’s got now. Oh yeah, did I mention the sparks? The sparks that came off Birdy’s shoes in action were just cool. Not to mention all the flashy effects shown during the fighting.

Sparks, sparks and more sparks.

Another thing that really wowed me was the music. The spaceship chase scene at the beginning of the episode had some really funky jazz to accompany it. The music played when Birdy revealed herself to Geega and all the way through the fight was really awesome too. It reminded me of some 80’s detective movies, AWESOME! The opening and ending themes we’re really good too. I could recognize opening, Sora by Hearts Grow, the moment I heard it. Did I ever mention how awesome Hearts Grow is? The ending Let’s go together by Afromania was also beyond cool. I’ve loved all of Afromania’s songs since they did Gurren Lagann and this one is no exception either.

The setting itself is really cool too. It’s totally got the whole Men In Black vibe coming off it, more so when Tute explained that there were actually many other aliens hiding on earth. I like the whole Intergalactic Federation Detective sthick that they’re going with. It just makes the whole premise much cooler. Oh and yeah, getting killed by a voluptuous female alien warrior while exploring an abandoned building isn’t a very good way to go huh? Although it could have been worse. xP

Not exactly the best way to go.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the next episode. I forsee awesomeness in the following episodes. So, heres to hoping that Tetsuwan Birdy Decode will remain as stylish and awesome as it is.

    I don’t know what this Tetsuwan Birdy Decode show is all about, but if it’s anything like Birdy the Mighty Decode, it rocks.
